Big Men Take Center Stage as Double-Doubles Define MBL Division 3

Week 8 at Open Gym Premier was defined by the imposing presence of the league’s frontcourt talent. Across the Sunday slate, four different players muscled their way to double-double performances, proving that controlling the paint remains the most effective path to success in MBL Division 3. From efficient scoring to relentless work on the glass, these big men dictated the tempo of the week’s action.

The Games

Black Mambas 32 at Tablighi Jumpers 43

The Tablighi Jumpers secured an 11-point victory behind a disciplined effort and a standout interior performance from Ashraf Faraj. Faraj anchored the Jumpers with a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, effectively neutralizing the Mambas' defensive focus. Ahmed Najiub added 8 points to help maintain the lead, while Raihaan Khan contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds. Despite the loss, Chachmoni Macon was a force for the Black Mambas, recording a massive 12-point, 10-rebound, 6-assist double-double while adding 6 steals. Zain Asif also fought hard on the interior for the Mambas, pulling down 10 rebounds to keep his team within striking distance during the middle quarters.

Chaos 29 at Apollo-7 47

Apollo-7 dominated this matchup, turning a defensive clinic into an 18-point win. Ahmad Kazi led the way with a game-high 16 points and 4 steals, while Arslan Rehman provided 13 points to keep the offense flowing. Mahaat Qureshi controlled the interior with a 9-point, 10-rebound performance that frustrated the Chaos offense throughout the afternoon. Chaos struggled to find a rhythm, though Yousif Kinan fought valiantly with an 11-rebound effort to go along with his 6 points. Waris Sidiq led the Chaos scoring with 13 points, but the team could not overcome the efficiency of the Apollo-7 rotation.

ICH 36 at Late Bloomers 53

The undefeated Late Bloomers continued their dominant run, utilizing a balanced offensive attack to pull away by 17 points. Rizwan Shah spearheaded the effort with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Asif Qureshi provided a spark from deep by knocking down three shots from beyond the arc for 13 points. Umar Patel chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds off the bench to maintain the Bloomers' intensity. ICH remained competitive for long stretches behind Mohamed Belas, who posted 10 points and 7 rebounds before reaching his foul limit. Omar Najjar also put up 12 points for ICH, but the team ultimately could not match the Bloomers' superior shooting efficiency.

Sand Ninjas 39 at Wolfpack 48

The Wolfpack held off the Sand Ninjas in a 9-point victory, relying on a steady hand at the free-throw line to close the door. Umair Sheikh was nearly perfect from the charity stripe, scoring 18 points while hitting 10-of-12 free throws. Mahroze Baloch was just one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing the afternoon with 10 points and 9 boards. The Sand Ninjas stayed in the game thanks to Anas Tresh, who scored 14 points, and John Payan, who added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Despite a valiant effort to narrow the gap, the Ninjas' lack of trips to the line left them unable to overcome the Wolfpack’s lead.

Just Keep 39 at Goon Squad 44

In one of the most defensive-minded contests of the week, the Goon Squad edged out Just Keep by 5 points. Muhammad Aslam was the story of the game, recording a staggering 8 blocks to anchor the Goon Squad defense while contributing 11 points and 8 rebounds. Mohammed Khalaf rounded out the winning performance with 10 points and 4 assists. Just Keep relied on a massive double-double from Nick Llamas, who hauled in 12 rebounds and scored 10 points. Sunny Tariq also added 10 points for Just Keep, but the Goon Squad’s rim protection ultimately proved to be the deciding factor in the closing minutes.

Mamdanicks 56 at Pushing 30 53

The Mamdanicks narrowly escaped with a 3-point win in the tightest game of the Sunday slate. Hammad Shaikh proved unstoppable in the paint, recording a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead the way. Asad Jafri provided crucial perimeter spacing, hitting five three-pointers to finish with 17 points. Ahmad Abdelkarim was a monster on the glass for the Mamdanicks, grabbing 14 rebounds to secure second-chance opportunities. Pushing 30 nearly pulled off the comeback behind a 17-point effort from Huzaifa Syed and a 15-point, 5-steal performance from Ayaan Saif, but the Mamdanicks held firm in the final sequence.
