Interior Titans and Hard-Fought Wins Define Week 7 Action

If you were watching the paint this past Sunday at Open Gym Premier, you witnessed a masterclass in controlled chaos. It was the week of the double-double, with our league’s big men putting on a clinic on how to secure the rock and control the pace. Yousif Kinan of Chaos led the interior charge with a massive 15-point, 19-rebound outing, a stat line mirrored by the sheer tenacity of Ahmad Abdelkarim, who pulled down 19 boards himself to go with 13 points and 4 assists for the Mamdanicks. Asif Qureshi was a force for the undefeated Late Bloomers, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Mahmood Baggia (16/15/4) and Nick Llamas (16/12/3) proved why they remain the anchors for their respective squads. Even in lower-scoring affairs, the fundamentals held firm, with Ashraf Faraj (13/10) and Anas Tresh (11/10) rounding out a banner night for our frontcourt specialists.

Goon Squad 41, Mamdanicks 37

This was a classic grinder that came down to the final few possessions in Anaheim. Goon Squad managed to edge out the Mamdanicks, largely thanks to a balanced effort that saw Mohammed Khalaf drop 13 points and Muhammad Aslam provide 8 boards and 3 steals. Despite Ahmad Abdelkarim’s colossal 19-rebound performance and 13 points for the Mamdanicks, his team couldn't quite overcome the late-game pressure. Hammad Shaikh was a monster on the glass as well, hauling in 19 rebounds to keep things tight, but Hans Mendez’s 5 steals for the Mamdanicks weren't enough to swing the momentum permanently. Goon Squad’s ability to limit turnovers while playing tough perimeter defense ultimately secured their victory in a game where every loose ball felt like a championship point.

Late Bloomers 58, Black Mambas 38

The Late Bloomers continued their dominant run, maintaining their perfect record with a 20-point victory over the Black Mambas. Asif Qureshi was the engine for the Bloomers, flirting with a triple-double by adding 3 assists to his 17 points and 11 boards. Azhir Wahid provided efficient scoring with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, helping the Bloomers pull away early. For the Mambas, Chachmoni Macon did his best to keep pace, fighting for 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Zain Asif added 10 points in a losing effort. The Bloomers’ spacing was the difference-maker, as they consistently found high-percentage looks while limiting the Mambas to just 38 points.

Tablighi Jumpers 32, Sand Ninjas 28

Points were hard to come by in this defensive standoff, which saw the Tablighi Jumpers scrape out a 4-point win. Ashraf Faraj was the heart of the winning effort, fighting for 13 points and a critical 10 rebounds. Ali Qureshi chipped in with 7 points and 6 rebounds to support the cause. On the other side, Anas Tresh put up an impressive 11-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Sand Ninjas, but the team struggled to find the bottom of the net as the game wore on. John Payan added 7 points and 9 boards, but the Jumpers held firm in the final minutes to prevent a Ninjas comeback.

Wolfpack 39, ICH 28

The Wolfpack utilized a steady hand and opportunistic defense to pull away from ICH by double digits. Edwin Tolentino was effective inside for the Wolfpack, dropping 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Danish Haider filled the stat sheet with 10 points and 3 crucial steals. ICH tried to bridge the gap through Sufyan Suliman’s 12-point outing, but they struggled to contain the Wolfpack’s depth. Mahroze Baloch was a quiet menace for the Wolfpack, snagging 9 rebounds and distributing 2 assists without turning the ball over. It was a disciplined performance that kept ICH at arm's length for most of the second half.

Just Keep 61, Apollo-7 55

In the highest-scoring affair of the day, Just Keep outlasted Apollo-7 in a back-and-forth contest. Nick Llamas anchored the winning side with a well-rounded 16 points and 12 boards, getting plenty of help from Sunny Tariq’s 13 points and Ali Aljidui’s 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Apollo-7 had no answer for the pressure, despite Mahmood Baggia’s heroic 16-point, 15-rebound effort and Talal Qureshi’s sharp-shooting 19 points, which included 5 triples. It was a game of runs, but Just Keep’s ability to convert at the charity stripe and control the boards ultimately pushed them over the finish line.

Pushing 30 49, Chaos 43

Pushing 30 secured a hard-fought win against a relentless Chaos squad. Ayaan Saif was the catalyst for the winners, scoring 15 points and terrorizing the lanes with 4 steals. Charlton Romualdez also contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds in a gritty team effort. Chaos kept it close behind Yousif Kinan, who dominated the interior with 15 points and 19 rebounds, while Ahmed Ahmed orchestrated the offense with 6 assists. Despite Kinan’s work in the paint, Pushing 30’s defensive intensity in the closing minutes forced just enough errors to seal the 6-point victory.

Player of the Week: Ahmad Abdelkarim (Mamdanicks) – 13 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists.

Bucket: Talal Qureshi (Apollo-7) – A massive 19-point performance featuring 5 shots from deep.

Board: Yousif Kinan (Chaos) – A monster 19-rebound game that kept his team in contention until the final whistle.

Dime: Ahmed Ahmed (Chaos) – Displayed great vision, recording 6 assists in a high-intensity matchup.

Looking ahead, all eyes should be on the clash between the Wolfpack and the Sand Ninjas. Both teams sit at 5-2, and this head-to-head battle will go a long way in deciding who holds the tie-breaker as we head toward the final stretch of the season.
